Floods at Laglan

Many properties on the Belyando River were ravaged by flood waters in January 2008 ... Laglan Station amongst them.  Continual storms kept access to the properties limited for a further  six weeks. There are still many places too wet to get to easily.... which makes repair work difficult to say the least.

Although the height of the flood in Foxes Creek (nearest the Laglan houses) was not as high as in 1990.... the Belyando River , Fiery Creek & Dunda Creek levels were higher than 1990.

Homesteads at properties such as Degulla & Alinya have not been flooded previously... but this time with the higher levels their worst fears were realised.  Jane, Brett & Ainsley Kinnon spent a fearful night on their roof.

The losses to the families affected will not be fully known for months!  Cattle that were not swept away or drowned faced hunger, boggy conditions, dehydration (as many are too afraid to enter the water to drink). Torment from the millions of sandflies & mosquitoes led to much 3-day.

Gradually we are putting the peices back together. It has been too wet to fully assess the losses & devastation.... so now the  stock take on dams, fences, raod, stock & infra structure begins..... and the long slow raod to recovery.

Aerial seeding we undertook early after the flood has sprouted & if there is follow-up rain the strike should hold.

We wish to thank all those who have given of their time, prayers, expertise, hay, resources and best wishes as we pick up the pieces after this devastating blow.
